The 7th edition of the Germano Chincherini Foundation‘s charity gala took place on Friday, June 1st, at the Hotel Antares-Olimpo in Letojanni (ME). More than three hundred guests attended the annual event in memory of the great entrepreneur, who passed away on June 4th, 2000. Naturally altruistic, Mr. Chincherini always considered himself a lucky man and wanted to share his good fortune with others.
He strongly believed in Sicily’s potential, so much so that he built two hotels there—the Hotel Antares-Olimpo in Letojanni and the Caesar Palace in Giardini Naxos—and acquired another in Taormina, the Hotel Ariston. Today, these establishments provide employment for over 250 families.
After his passing, his wife Helena founded the Germano Chincherini Philanthropic Foundation and became its lifetime president, completing all the projects her husband had left unfinished. The Foundation offers comprehensive support to underprivileged children, especially in countries afflicted by hunger.
In Kenya, for instance, in the village of Ukunda, the Foundation has built two family homes, which together host 72 orphaned children: the first was built in 2008, the second in 2011.
Now, thanks in part to the funds raised during the June 1st evening, the charitable work continues. The proceeds from the gala dinner will be used to purchase land for a new project, “The Farm” (a small garden and livestock area to teach children where food comes from), and to build another family home that will accommodate 80 more children.
