The 8th edition of the Foundation’s charity gala was held on Saturday, June 2nd, at the Hotel Antares-Olimpo in Letojanni (ME). More than three hundred guests participated in this annual event held in memory of Mr. Germano Chincherini, who passed away on June 4th, 2000. For many, this occasion is a moment to honor and remember the legacy of the great entrepreneur.
Attendees offered numerous compliments and heartfelt appreciation for Mrs. Helena, Mr. Germano’s widow, who—with determination, resilience, and above all generosity—has made the Foundation her life’s work.
Her efforts in Ukunda, Kenya, have notably improved the living conditions of the local population through the creation of water wells, schools, churches, and the first family home built in 2008, which now houses 40 children. A second family home, completed in 2011, currently shelters 32 children.
During the dinner, raffle tickets were sold for numerous prizes generously donated by the Foundation’s suppliers, as is tradition every year. This year, a special addition greatly enhanced the evening: thanks to a private donor, Claudio G., two replica Formula 1 cars—a Ferrari and a BMW—were displayed at the Hotel Olimpo. Guests were invited to take photos next to the race cars, and many did.
After the prize raffle, several items were auctioned off: two Ferrari shirts autographed by Alonso and Barrichello; a signed Ferrari cap; two Ferrari posters; and, again donated by Mr. Claudio G., a Catania Calcio shirt signed by various players, as well as shirts from Chievo Verona, Torino, Cagliari, and Palermo, kindly provided by the respective football clubs.
As always, it was a wonderful evening filled with warmth and participation. The charitable activities will continue, thanks in part to the funds raised during the event. The proceeds from the dinner will go toward building a new family home—set to accommodate another 80 children—and an adjacent educational farm where fruit and vegetables will be grown and small animals raised. The completion of this project is scheduled for September 2013.
