The annual charity gala of the Germano Chincherini Philanthropic Foundation took place against the stunning backdrop of the Hotel Antares-Olimpo in Letojanni, marking its ninth edition.
During the evening, the memory of the late Mr. Germano Chincherini was honored—a great entrepreneur who, between 1997 and 2001, built two hotel properties: Hotel Olimpo in Letojanni (which, together with Hotel Antares, forms one of the largest resorts on the Ionian coast) and the Caesar Palace in Giardini Naxos. With the addition of Hotel Ariston in Taormina, he completed his trio of hotels in Sicily. the other hotels in the chain he founded are located in Bardolino, Limone sul Garda, and Peschiera del Garda.
This year’s gala aimed to raise funds for the completion of a family home for young orphans in Kenya, scheduled to open in December 2014.
The Foundation’s care homes in Kenya will soon number three: 40 children are housed in the first, built in 2008; 32 in the second, built in 2010; and the third will welcome another 64 children from December 2014.
Among the 270 guests at the gala dinner were Dr. Pollini, CEO of Parc Hotels Italia, and Marco Borghesi, the Foundation’s coordinator for the Lake Garda area.
A moving speech was given by Dr. Claudio Dutto, a dentist and family friend of Mr. Germano and Mrs. Helena, who shared images of his work over the past three years in Ukunda, Kenya. Thanks to his generosity, a real dental clinic has been established there, where he and his team care for all the children in the Foundation’s homes, also teaching them proper oral hygiene. Dr. Dutto, alongside his collaborators, colleagues, and daughter, also provides care to children outside the Foundation’s homes.
During the evening, Mrs. Renata B. was introduced—she will be donating a full-sized football field to be built at the new family home in Ukunda. A heartfelt thank you goes to Mrs. Renata for her incredible generosity.
Many prizes, kindly donated by the Foundation’s generous suppliers, were raffled off throughout the evening.
While the Foundation’s main mission is to help underprivileged children in Africa Mrs. Helena’s generosity extends far beyond. In fact, during the gala, in the presence of Letojanni’s mayor Alessandro Costa, deputy mayor Eugenio Bonsignore, and Antonio Riccobene, the Foundation’s representative for Sicily, Mrs. Helena presented Father Pino Gentile, parish priest of Letojanni, with a donation to help cover the cost of restoring the cornice of the local church dedicated to Saint Joseph.
